County Court Judgement Mortgages |
![]() A County Court Judgement (CCJ) is a judgement against you for a debt in the County Court. A record of the CCJ will appear on your credit file unless the debt is settled in full within 30 days of the date of the Judgement. The credit reference agency may hold details of your CCJ, taken from the Register of Judgments, Orders and Fines. Usually you'll have been informed that you have a CCJ against you, however occasionally that doesn't happen. This may happen for example if the court papers have been sent to an old or incorrect address. If you decide to find out if a CCJ has been made issued on your name, you may decide to search the Register of Judgments, Orders and Fines, or ask to see a copy of the information held by credit reference agencies. How to find out if a CCJ has been made against you You can make a search of the Register of Judgments, Orders and Fines by post, email or in person. The fee is eight pounds. You may also choose to request a copy of the information held by the credit reference agency used by your lender to asses your application for credit. The fee for this is two pounds. Some credit reference agencies may offer an extended report, in addition to the basic version. This may give additional information or a quicker response time, but will cost more. However, if you ask for it, the credit reference agency MUST provide all the information that they hold about you for two pounds. A County Court Judgment may be set aside, varied, or suspended on application to the court. Judgements are registered publicly with the Register of County Court Judgments and held for six years. If the debt is paid after the 30 day deadline, the Judgement will still appear in the Register of County Court Judgements, but will be shown as being satisfied. But a satisfied judgement will, in most cases, still show on your credit record and be treated as adverse (bad) credit history.
